Rolex Explorer 36mm 1016 – Black Dial

The 1016 ran for roughly three decades and set the template every Explorer since has followed: a 36mm Oyster case, a matte black dial with 3, 6 and 9 Arabic numerals, and nothing else competing for attention. This example dates to 1963, an early gilt-era piece carrying the exclamation dot beneath six o'clock that marks the transition in luminous compounds. Rivet-free legibility, an acrylic crystal and an Oyster bracelet complete it.
